Arthur
Tschirhart
April 30, 2025
Boony Boy, Sweet Boy, and Floofus (floofy doofus), passed away the evening of April 30, 2025 after a few months of illness, at the still young age of 4½ years old (estimated).
Arthur’s birthday and details of his early life are unknown. He was rescued in 2021 while roaming the Stonehenge Arthur, King of the Britons, pet rabbit extraordinaire, also known as Arfur, Ar-ful-er, Buddy, area of Hickory Fork Road in Gloucester and dwelt briefly at the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society until he was adopted by his family on Father’s Day 2021. He was estimated to be about six months old at the time.
In contrast to his more standoffish fellow house-bunny, Cherry (formally, Cherish Humble Pie, Duchess of Gloucester, also known as Cherry Pie and Princess Flooferdoodles), Arthur was a snuggle bug from the beginning. He loved getting lots of pets and attention, from “skull-crusher” head pets, to massages on his chin and lower jaw, to full “smoof-ing” pets while lying splooted on the floor. Unless he was busy exploring or playing, petting his forehead would often cause his front half to melt into the carpet, transforming him into the world’s flattest, most relaxed bunny.
His regular diet consisted of Timothy hay, romaine lettuce, grain-free crunchies, and various hay-based bunny cookies, but his favorite “treatos” were cilantro, oats, and the occasional bite from Jess’s cereal bar or Ben’s banana (nanner), plus a rare strawberry or blackberry.
Arthur is survived by his slightly older bunny friend Cherry Pie and the various Tschirhart hoomans of the house: Josh, Jess, Ben, and Jane, plus other hooman friends who came to visit and offer treats and pets, e.g. Robin and Kiera in particular, among others. He leaves behind his good stuffed toy friend, Sharkie, whom he groomed daily. Arthur was a very sweet and unique guy who will be missed by all who knew him well.
Special thanks to Dr. Long and the team at Animal Care of Gloucester, as well as Maggie at River Country Pet Loss & Cremation Center for their kindness and caring.
Arthur’s family would like to share a silly poem that was originally written in late 2021, slightly modified.
Arthur is our boony boy,
He looks just like a rabbit toy,
Petting him brings lots of joy,
A gray-eyed boony boy.
Arthur is a snuggle bug,
He lies wherever on the rug,
And invites pets–they’re like his drug–
Or facial scritches and a snug.
Arthur is a kingly boon,
He scales the sofa like a dune,
And seeks adventures to the moon,
But then he slips a bit too soon.
Arthur is a groomy guy,
He loves to lick Miss Cherry’s eye,
It’s weird–she’ll let him by and by,
And no, we really don’t know why.
Arthur loves and loves to eat,
His preference is greens–so sweet!
He munches crunchies as a treat,
And cookies, hay–he thinks they’re neat.
Arthur likes to try things new,
His interests are never few,
Like charging cords–he will on cue–
If loose, give them a risky chew.
We love our furry boony son,
We find him extra super fun,
He was a wild bun on the run,
But now he lives with us–our bun.
Four years have past--or nearly so,
It's time we let our Floofus go
And mourn the friend we've come to know
And love, who set our hearts aglow,
Our Buddy's end has come too soon,
Forever loved--King Arthur Boon!
